Morocco and the2030 World Cup
Why Morocco has become one of the most interesting sports destinations in the world, and what that means for visiting teams.

Morocco reached the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the first African and Arab nation to do so. It hosted the Africa Cup of Nations from December 2025 to January 2026 and will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
What has changed for sport in Morocco
Hosting major tournaments has brought heavy investment in stadiums, training complexes, transport and hotels. Football is the headline, but the effect reaches other sports through new multi-sport facilities and a stronger events culture.
Why this matters for visiting teams
- Story: athletes train in a country preparing to host the world's biggest sporting event.
- Opposition: a deep pool of technical club and academy players across age groups.
- Infrastructure: improving road, rail and airport links between the main cities, including high-speed rail between Tangier and Casablanca.
- Culture: a football-mad public, packed local derbies and a passion players feel straight away.
Beyond football
Morocco's athletics tradition is just as strong. Hicham El Guerrouj holds the 1500 m world record and Soufiane El Bakkali won Olympic steeplechase titles in 2021 and 2024. Distance runners from around the world train at altitude in the Middle Atlas.
